Empowering You To Live By Your Best Intention

Pacing makes sure you have power over the habit
and the habit never has power over you.

If you're reading this you probably have, or know someone who has, an unhealthy compulsion or habit. It's not uncommon. Nearly one in five individuals in the United States are currently suffering from some type of substance use disorder, and that number is higher for behavioral addictions such as phone addiction.

The daily struggles of those in one of these categories are a constant internal fight to resist the thing they know they shouldn't do. While the root causes of these compulsions are as widely varied as the individuals themselves, the subsequent spiral completely rewrites their life story while the dream they had for themselves fades away. But does it have to be like that?

Pacing As A Solution

The evidence is consistent that the most effective approach to treating a use disorder is to control access to the substance or object in question. Typically this implies abstinence, or strategies to avoid said compulsion such as a trigger.

Abstinence absolutely works, but it tends to trigger grief and a feeling of loss of identity for the individual. The individual may relapse as whatever triggers reappear in their life. Getting sober is a major internal struggle, and tends to completely rewrite a person's life.

Pacing as a concept is based on engineering their environment. It won't judge you in your weakest moments, but if the shame of the habit ever hits, you can decide how long you'll be taking a break, and it will enforce your intentions at their best.

For those who use potentially addictive materials, habits can take a life of their own as stresses and triggers appear as life unfolds, often in the messy bits. As we get older the chances of suffering from a substance use disorder increase.

Pacing can ensure that you stay healthy, and makes sure you have power over the habit, and the habit never has power over you.
